The Star Fire District is seeking a highly skilled, innovative, self-motivated, positive team member to fill a Fire Apparatus Maintenance Technician position. Under the direction and guidance of the Division Chief of Maintenance, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for mechanical work in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of light and heavy automotive equipment, trucks, fire apparatus, emergency medical vehicles, and non-automotive equipment. The Technician establishes priorities on vehicle and equipment repairs, diagnoses problems, creates work orders, documents repairs, tracks labor and parts, communicates diagnoses and repair plan with customers, and performs repairs and preventative maintenance.

Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Valid Idaho CDL (Class B Min) Driver’s License
- Master ASE and EVT certifications or ability to obtain within 3 years of hire date
- Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Applicant may possess any combination of relevant education and experience, which would demonstrate the individual’s knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed
- Basic computer and accurate record keeping skills including email, word processing, online work order system and data entry.
- Experience analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical and electrical problems
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Heavy truck/equipment mechanical experience

- Metal fabrication to include cutting, bending and welding.
- Air, brake, electrical, hydraulic systems, and air conditioning systems

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform vehicle, apparatus, small gas, diesel, and electrical equipment repair
- Perform annual testing and maintenance in the following areas: hydraulic and air brakes; ABS; gas and diesel engines; advanced electrical and on-board computers; fuel delivery; hydraulics; transmissions; air systems; exhaust, axles and suspensions; fire pumps; foam systems and aerial apparatus
- Perform inspections and certification of equipment in accordance with State, Federal and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
- Test drive apparatus for diagnosis, troubleshooting and after repairs
- Keeps daily electronic log of time, materials and labor for record keeping and billing purposes
- Maintain work area for cleanliness and safety
- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair air, brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Maintain and repair components in fire pump systems
- Repair, overhaul, tune and adjust a variety of diesel and gas engines, transmissions, pumps and valves of assigned equipment
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment
- Maintain records of maintenance, test and work performed on a computer-based system
- Inventory research, order and maintain stock levels.
- This is a physically demanding position requiring individuals to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, see, and complete repetitive motions
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying in excess of 50 lbs.
