Single Family Residential Construction

APPLICATION AND PLAN REVIEW PROCESS

Thank you for choosing to build within the Middleton Rural Fire District and Star Fire Protection District.   We look forward to working with you during the construction process. 


SUBMITTING APPLICATION AND PLANS FOR REVIEW: 


  1. Download and Complete the Single Family Construction Access & Water Supply Application. 
  2. Upload the PDF application and Plans (Certified Plans) by clicking the button below. Plans need to include a site plan with measurements of driveway and turn-around. 
  3. Once your review is complete an email will be sent to you from our Fire Code Official.  
  4. Please allow up to 10-15 business days for review and comment. 


GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SINGLE FAMILY  RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION: 


WATER SUPPLY (Fire Flow): 

If the residential structure is more than 1000 ft. from a certified hydrant, a water supply is required. 


One and two-family dwellings not exceeding 3,600 square feet require a fire-flow of 1,000 gallons per minute for a duration of 1 hours to service the entire project. 


One and two family dwellings in excess of 3,600 square feet require a minimum fire flow as specified in Appendix B of the 2018 International Fire Code. 


The fire-flow calculation area shall be the total floor area of all floor levels within the exterior walls, and under the horizontal projections of the roof of a building.


APPARATUS ACCESS: 

Fire apparatus access roads shall have an unobstructed width of not less than 20 feet exclusive of shoulders with an unobstructed vertical clearance of not less than 13 feet 6 inches. The drivable surface shall be capable of supporting the imposed load of fire apparatus weighing at least 75,000 pounds. Access roads over 150 ft. from the public roadway will require a turnaround.

Effective May 1, 2020, we will now be accepting electronic plans for review.  


HOME KNOXBOX PROGRAM:  

The Middleton and Star Fire District offer a Home Knoxbox program for single family residential structures. Knoxbox will help first responders gain access in the event of an emergency.  For more information contact the Fire Code Official. 


INSPECTIONS: 

Inspections are to be scheduled in a timely manner by the Builder or Project Manager.  To schedule an inspection contact (208) 585-6650 and provide the following information:
1) Fire District Permit Number
2) Inspection needed
3) Address
4) Contact information
Please allow 48 hours for inspections.
